Well it only took 24 hours after bringing the ducks home before we lost one to a pesky fox. :-( Keeping our eyes peeled for other critters… It may be time to get a dog!
Good times a-plenty. On Friday Eric and I went to the State Fair in search of some really good people watching (CHECK) and possibly more birds (CHECK). All the big birds were gone and they were showing Bantams. They had some Silkies, which I have read make very good surrogate mothers in the event you have a breed that lacks that characteristic. We ended up getting a white silkie hen I named Opal and a buff rooster and hen named Milton and Matilda. That puts the final chicken count at 6. But between Lord Harold (Olde English Gamecock) being ‘cock-of-the-walk’ and overarching alpha male I am just never quite sure if Milton will be with us or not when I check on the little boogers.
We have kept a bustling schedule the past week, what with closing on the farm, moving truckload after carload, painting and of course the time we spend sitting in the middle of the floor pinching each other and waiting to find out this is only a dream. We spent the first afternoon in the new house eating Brie and sipping a bottle of Dom Perignon sitting on our back deck looking out over the pond and loving every second of it. We are nowhere near close to moving in but the movers come today to get the rest of the furniture and we will unpack our PODS over the next few weeks. Slowly we will get there. Had to paint first… trust me… HAD to
Such a big day planned for today. First of all, today is Rucio’s first birthday. Sorry that we will not be able to celebrate with our boy, but Marty and Ken St. Clair (of Elevenses Farm) sent him a birthday card. Too cute! Closing on the farm is tomorrow so we have our final walk through today at 4:30. We have someone coming to look at our house a second time today (not to jinx it) but keeping our fingers crossed. And finally, we have our sustainable pasture management class tonight at Central Carolina Community College. Sorry that it is such a brief update but we are just so excited about everything! So much going on with the packing, painting, planning, IKEA trip… it is
Well, We officially close on Friday and have our final walk through on Thursday after work. We have already picked out and bought new paint for the kitchen, living room and bedroom. We have boxes at the new house, at the current MadAv house and boxes in a PODS. We have movers coming next Tuesday to remove the rest of the contents from the old to the new house. The utilities are being changed over and for some reason our mail has already stopped… hope we are not missing anything important in there. The plan is to paint (correction… is for Eric to paint) Friday and Saturday and I will do some unpacking and then move the rest by Tuesday. Next up after the painting…
